For those of us who have pets that we love and treat as family members, it is so hard when they get sick. After all, they can't tell us what hurts, or how they feel.
I have 3 cats, all brothers from the same litter. They are 8 years old and have rarely been separated. The first time they were not all together was when "Einstein" got very sick. He was in ICU for a week and it was touch and go. His condition was finally diagnosed as a disease very rare in cats. He had Polycythemia. That was about 5 years ago, and thanks to the outstanding doctors and hospital that we have here in Cooper City, he has led a normal, happy life. His doctors are not the average Veterinarians...they are Oncologists/Hematologists, Internists, Cardiologists, and of course his Primary Care Veterinarian.
Einstein goes for treatment every 6 weeks, and is used to it by now. He has had some difficult times, but he always turned it around with the help of his doctors. He also has a great attitude. He is so sweet and amazing....he lets the doctors treat him without any fuss on his part.
Early this morning Einstein was acting strange. He was squinting his eyes and fell on his side. He was having difficulty moving. Very quickly I decided to get him to Emergency. (his hospital is open 24 hours) I arrived at 6:00 am and they quickly rushed him into treatment. When I spoke to the Emergency Doctor, she said that he had a stroke. Luckily, we got there early. All through the day, his doctors were consulting from Cooper City to West Palm Beach. I was able to see him in the afternoon, and there was an improvement. He was laying in a large soft pet bed with an IV drip. Only the best for Einstein! His doctor was cautiously optimistic and said he said he would call me before he left for the day. By early evening when he called, Einstein had greatly improved and will hopefully be okay to go home tomorrow.
His 2 brothers, Panther and Gator have been looking all over for him, and are very sad that he's not here. All of our family and friends are worried about our Einstein. Hopefully tomorrow, we will all be together again!
It is so difficult when our pets get sick.
